Starting point for "STEEL" is the material steel. Steeped in history, this substance, a mixture of iron and carbon, is associated like no other with hard work, strength, masculinity and, last but not least, bodies of steel. At the same time, the heat of the melting furnaces and the sweat of the steelworkers are attributed a sensuality that in turn provides material for queer fantasies and romantic images. Between historical and contemporary images of work, metalworking techniques such as welding and forging and references to pop culture, Kristina Dreit, together with the two dancers Camilla Schielin and Julia Müllner, develops movements, atmospheric images and fictional techniques that question the separation and valuation of manual and mental work.
